  1. I love the “Only God can judge me” meme – that nails it!

I’m sure you have realized this, but your lifestyle of purity – which I greatly admire — will be viewed as a judgment to 97% of the population. Merely by existing you will make them feel judged, but you shouldn’t feel bad about that.

P.S. Thanks so much for your review of my book! That made my week.

Be blessed, my friend, and keep your ministry going!

    • Thanks man! I’m so sorry, I don’t know why your comments keep going to my spam. 😦 lol, and you’re welcome with the review! Congrats on the accomplishment, I’m still in the middle of reading it but I didn’t want too much time to pass before I posted it. It really is great and inspirational. I admire your family for helping you. lol, and slick move staying back to help those freshmen move in! lololol

      • Thanks! And I just downloaded your book. I’ve been too tired to even read lately, but looking forward to it now that my energy is picking up a little. Cancer is back for the 6th time and getting ready to start an “inhibitor” treatment that won’t cure it but hopefully will stop it or slow it down.

        Be blessed!

  3. P.S. And yes, we need Christians like you so that others can aspire to be holier. As my pastor often reminds us, while we are indeed still sinners, that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t strive for holiness.

  5. Let me just say, this essay was so full of love and wisdom, I could sense the presence and heart of Jesus just reading it. I was originally just trying to find a theological answer to the question, “Are some people actually holier than others?” And so far, among those who answered the question seriously, the Biblical answer is yes.

So then comes the accusation of “holier than thou” which is meant to apply to people who are arrogant and think they have everything right, to the point of not receiving correction or admitting fault. Clearly, anyone fitting this description is not “holier” because a truly holy person is humble, willing to listen to others, and receptive of correction.

That leaves the false accusation which you so poignantly and accurately described, and is EXACTLY what happened to me that made me ask the question in the first place. And it is exactly the dynamic I find myself in- where I have grown so much (yes, at great personal expense!) that even if I don’t say anything at all (and I haven’t!), my loved one is convicted just being around me. So that when an issue did arise, the accusation came up.

In the past, I might have back-pedaled or backed down, or tried to defend myself, or apologized. But this time I just stopped and assessed. This person was yelling in my face and literally pointing the finger, and I didn’t yell back (in the past, I would have! And ten times louder too!), but I calmly suggested that praying might help, which brought on the accusation. And after assessing this situation, I simply thought in my head, “Maybe I am actually holier?”

Long story short this whole blog entry has been incredibly encouraging at a moment when I needed it. Not the false justification of “I’m right. He’s wrong,” but the encouragement that I really am a different person, and with the help of Jesus, I really can continue to respond entirely differently than I would have in the past. Most importantly, that I can respond in a way that honors the heart of Jesus.

    • Hi, Carol!

I’m glad you were able to be encouraged. It sounds like you care a lot about this “loved one” which is also giving you the strength and patience to tolerate them as much as you have as well. That’s to be commended.

But you’re absolutely right. In short, “holy” simply means “set apart,” as in separated from others or something else. Back in the old days, the Sabbath was “holy” because it was set apart or different from the rest of the days of the week. Those who strive to put God first and truly live by Christ’s standards to the best of their abilities, are different from those who don’t.

Sadly, we live in a world where so many, including those who “claim” to be Christian, they do not live by Christ’s standards. That doesn’t mean we’re saying they’re going to hell or that they aren’t saved. But if Christ and his Apostles say “do this” and they don’t do that, or they choose to live however they want…even if we don’t say anything, the mere fact that we don’t partake or indulge with their behavior is going to be apparent, that we are different, or set apart, or just a little bit holier than they are.

And it’s funny, because even if/when we are…you ever notice that we don’t even think about it? Or rather, while they think we’re walking around with an air of superiority, the truth is that sometimes it’s us who feel awkward, inferior, and out of place we felt when we’re around them.

That’s why I like what you said about praying during that confrontation. In moments like that, I can only imagine how alone and doubtful you might have felt. But God is our salvation. He is our heavenly father, the one we turn to for grace, gratitude, and help.

When people hit you with, “Oh! You’re just hiding behind the Bible!”

I’m like, “Correct. And while you’re saying that to try and belittle me, I actually take it as a compliment. By your own accusation, you’re affirming that I’m following the Scriptures at Ephesians 6 where God tells us to use our faith as a shield.” – https://www.gotquestions.org/shield-of-faith.html

I hope God continues to give you the strength to persevere, Carol! Thanks again for your awesome comment!
