Easy…Calm down. This one is just a casual conversation with some thought-provoking theories. I could be right or wrong. Let me know what you think.
A common complaint from a lot of ladies are that most of the Black Single men out there…we’re gay. To be honest, I’m not insulted or offended. To this day, some of my peers often assume that I’m gay because I haven’t had a date in some time. Not to mention, the way I talk, I smile a lot, I used to listen to kpop and Backstreet Boys, etc.
But more than that, I think I know why ladies would rather assume a man must be gay IF he’s not checking for her or approaching her in the gym or at the mall. Long story short, it’s about protecting their ego.
Usually when people talk about egos, they’re referring to men. I haven’t seen too many touch on the egos/ambitions of modern Millennial women. In fact, I think they’re often encouraged and celebrated to think that they’re “perfect the way they are” or that they’re all 10s just because they feel like it.
When you have that mentality, I can understand why a lady would be quick to assume a man’s gay if he’s not even looking her way or that he even seems interested. I mean…why else would he not try to talk to her or shoot his shot? It can’t possibly be because he just doesn’t find her attractive. No way!
I think what’s happening is a defense mechanism. I used to do the same thing. Instead of shooting my shot with ladies, I’d tell myself “she must be immoral or godless, so there’s no point in even thinking about it.”
Why would I do this? Because 1) it protects me from thinking that there’s anything I need to change about myself to be more appealing and 2) I protects me from the negative feelings surrounding that missed opportunity. It’s that stupid regret that sinks in where you know a woman’s not just going to fall into your lap. You have to do something. You have to make a move. And every time you don’t, you just missed a blown opportunity. You’ve failed.
